I know that many people have this question whether they say it or not.  Why? Why did I start essential oils?  Why did I go with Young Living?  Why do I share?  Why is Young Living a multi-level marketing business?  Why are they more expensive than others I can find elsewhere?  Well, here are my answers..

Why did I start essential oils?

I had started going on a natural journey with our food and with cloth diapers.  The more I learned about everyday products, the less things I wanted to use with Malachi.  I also wanted to stop going to the doctor so often and I wanted to stop using so many harmful things on Malachi.  We were going to the doctor so often between his skin issues, various allergies, and ickiness that I was completely sick of it! At the same time, I hated the idea of not doing anything to help him, just treating symptoms.  I also wanted to stop using so many chemicals in our home and on our bodies.  Between soaps, lotions, candles, air fresheners, cleaners, bug spray, and sunscreen, it was getting to be too much!  The more I thought about it, the more it would make me so mad that I didn’t know another way.  And now all I see all the possibilities for natural solutions to all of those and more!  I am also so grateful that I am not in fear of what I am using on my family and the long term effects!

Why did I go with Young Living Essential Oils?

There are so many brands, options and opinions that it can be hard to narrow it down.  Honestly, I went with Young Living because that is what the few people I knew that did essential oils used.  However, the more I learn and the more I read, the more I am so happy that I fell into such a great company!  Now, I would never use another brand on my family!  The one other brand (I bought from a store and comes highly recommended) made Wes and I both have headaches, it stuck in our throat like most chemical smells do, and we couldn’t stand it.

So then comes the question, why do I think Young Living is the best?

Seed to Seal!! Young Living has a Seed to Seal guarantee that no other company can even come close to offering.  Young Living has been doing this for over 20 years and currently owns and operates I believe 10 farms (it is hard to keep up, they are constantly adding new farms so this number keeps changing) on 5 continents with 14 partnering farms.  They harvest themselves when it is the right time for the plant to produce the best oils.  For example, I have seen that the Ylang Ylang plant needs to be harvested after sunset when the flowers open up so when the flower is picked and harvested it contains the highest amount of essential oils. So they have teams go out and work through the night harvesting it!  They do not use any chemicals or pesticides on their farms.  In fact they have their farms HAND weeded! Seriously!  They distill the plants themselves using different techniques, temperatures and pressures for each plant to be sure they are extracting the highest potency and quality oil without damaging the integrity of the oil.  They test the oil themselves along with third party testing and then bottle the oils themselves.  In fact for every batch of oil they produce they run 8 different tests on it.  Then they only sell about 28% of the oils tested!  All other oils get used as natural pesticides on their farms!  The oils never leave Young Living ownership and oversight! Most other companies are considered brokers by buying the oil in bulk and sending it off to be bottled before sticking their own label on it. They have no idea what is in their bottles (proven by multiple recalls in the past)!  I also find it amazing that there are opportunities that I could go help harvest the fields myself!  They allow us to come help plant or harvest at some of their farms.  That is so cool!  What other company can offer that?!

Why do I share?

I want to share our experience with oils because I believe they work!  I have become passionate that God gave us these oils for a reason and I love learning those reasons and exploring them.  I truly want other people to learn and experience what we have.  There is freedom in knowing exactly what you are using on your body, on your kids and in your home that is truly God given.  Wouldn’t you share if you found something that you love using, completely versatile, safe for your family and you knew could help others?!

Why is Young Living a multi level marketing company?

I believe when Gary Young started this company, he wanted to create a community so we could help one another through our journey.  I would not know what oils to use or how to use them if it wasn’t for my upline and the community I have joined.  I have become part of 7 different groups on Facebook that I can go and ask any questions about essential oils and get answers from my team members.  Some of them have been using essential oils for years and have so much knowledge and wisdom that I can learn from.  Doing this on my own, I would be lost.  There are so many different oils and so many opinions in books and online on how to use them that it is nice to hear from someone who has experience with it.  I can talk to them one on one and get advice on what to try.  Also, we have team meetings that I get to meet some of these people face to face and talk with them.  It isn’t just random people.. it is my team!  We are there to help each other go through this oily journey together!  I have met some amazing people on my journey that I am so excited to be side by side working with them!

Why are they expensive?

Yes, you can probably find essential oils online or in a store for a small percentage of what Young Living charges. However, I am a strong believer that you get what you pay for and it is no different with essential oils.  Since I am doing this to get rid of chemicals, synthetics and other harmful things from my home then I want to move to the most natural and safe product available.  The research, care and time it takes to produce the purest product comes with a cost.  However, I do not believe Young Living is too expensive.  There are many Young Living oils under $20!

“Essential Oils are too expensive!”

This is something I hear often. However, they really aren’t if you get quality essential oils. Let me explain..

Essential oils are potent and very concentrated, therefore you usually only need a drop or two at a time! However, if you are using cheap essential oils from the health food store, you will end up using way more at a time so it will not last you very long. The reason is the cheaper essential oils are diluted, cut, or altered in a way that they are not as potent as pure essential oil. So even though you are only spending $8 for that bottle of lavender, you will go through it much faster and it will be less effective.

Young Living Essential Oils are the only oils I trust to use on, in and around my family because I know there is nothing in my bottle of essential oil but the oil itself! The reason is because of Seed to Seal, a proprietary process to assure quality. You can read more about that at seedtoseal.com.

Young Living Essential oil comes in either a 5ml or 15ml bottles. The 5ml bottle typically has about 80 drops in it; the 15ml about 250! Using only a drop or two at a time, that bottle will last you a while, especially since essential oils do not expire! True, unaltered essential oils do not go rancid (except for the citrus ones) ever! They will still be just as potent in 20 years as they are today. If there is an expiration date on one you find at the health food store or anywhere else, then that is a sure sign it is not pure (no matter what the bottle says since the FDA does not regulate it other than for perfume use meaning it only has to have 5% of the essential oil in that bottle to use that word). The only reason it would go bad is if there is a fatty oil in it that will go rancid.
